CME COURSE: Platelet Refractoriness: Patient Evaluation and Product Selection

This course defines platelet refractoriness and describes the relevant antigens. Antigen typing and testing are reviewed. Finally, this educational session concludes with identification of the treatment options including their relative advantages and limitations.

TARGET AUDIENCE: This activity has been designed for general, specialty, and subspecialty physicians who prescribe blood products, care for blood donors or have related interests. There are no participant prerequisites for this activity.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:

  1. Define platelet refractoriness.

  2. Compare immune to non-immune platelet refractoriness.

  3. Summarize the different types of tests used in the evaluation of platelet refractoriness.

Formulate a patient evaluation and product selection algorithm which best meets your needs and location.

LEARNING TASKS
To receive CME credit for this course, participants must:

  1. Acknowledge your review of the activity prerequisites, objectives, disclosures, methods of physician participation and statements.

  2. Review the presentation or read the PowerPoint slides and accompanying notes available as a printable Adobe Reader® file.
